The easiest packing mistake on a Krka and Plitvice trip is dressing only for sunny Split. Krka can feel warm and bright beside the water, while an early morning near Plitvice often feels cooler and more mountain-like. Add waterfall spray, shaded paths and plenty of walking, and one small overnight bag needs to do a few different jobs.

Choose shoes for walking, not for the photograph
Both parks reward you for exploring on foot. You will meet paved sections, forest paths and wooden boardwalks, and the ground can be damp around the falls even on a beautiful day.
Comfortable trainers or lightweight walking shoes with a grippy sole are usually the best choice. Heavy hiking boots are not essential for most guests, but brand-new shoes, smooth-soled fashion trainers and flip-flops can turn an easy walk into a long afternoon. Wear something you already trust.
Pack one layer more than Split suggests
Our route begins on the coast, continues inland and includes a night near Plitvice Lakes. That change of landscape is part of the magic, but it also means the temperature can feel different from one part of the trip to the next.
A light fleece, sweatshirt or long-sleeved top is useful for dinner, the mountain evening and the early start on day two. Add a thin waterproof jacket that can fold into your bag. It will help with passing rain and with the fine mist that sometimes drifts from the waterfalls.
In warmer months, choose breathable clothes you can layer rather than one heavy outfit. In May, June, September and October, give the warm layer a little more priority. Check the forecast shortly before departure, but keep the waterproof in your bag even when the day looks promising.
Use a day bag and keep the rest simple
You do not need to carry everything through both parks. A small day bag is enough for water, sun protection, your phone, a light jacket and personal essentials. Your overnight bag can hold toiletries, sleepwear and a clean outfit for day two.
Anything you do not need during the park visits can stay safely on the bus. That makes the boardwalks far more enjoyable and leaves your hands free for the railings, your camera and the occasional stop to stare at the water.
Bring water and sun protection
A refillable water bottle is useful across both days and helps reduce single-use plastic. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen matter too, especially at Krka and during the brighter stretches of the journey.
Do not let a cooler Plitvice morning fool you into skipping sunscreen. You will still spend a substantial part of the day outdoors, and the sun can return quickly once the mist lifts.
Keep your phone or camera ready
Krka and Plitvice are the sort of places where the next view appears just after you put the camera away. Charge your phone or camera the night before departure and bring a small power bank if you use your phone for photographs, video and navigation.
A waterproof pouch or simple zip bag is a useful little extra near the falls. It takes almost no room and gives you somewhere dry for your phone if the spray becomes lively.
What you can leave at home
Try not to turn a one-night trip into a moving day. You are unlikely to need several pairs of shoes, a large hard-shell suitcase or a different outfit for every stop. Packing light makes hotel check-in easier and keeps the focus where it belongs: on the parks.
