Krka and Plitvice are Croatia’s two best-known waterfall landscapes, but they are far enough apart that trying to force both into one day from Split means too much driving and too little time outside. The overnight route is the practical answer.
Day one keeps the pace relaxed at Krka. The overnight stop then puts you close to Plitvice for an early start on day two, when the paths are cooler and usually calmer. We organise the route locally so you can focus on the parks rather than buses, parking and backtracking.

Day 1: Krka National Park
Krka is the natural first stop from Split. Its best-known sight is Skradinski Buk, a broad series of cascades crossed by a marked walking loop, wooden bridges and viewpoints. The ethno area near the waterfall preserves traditional mills and tells the story of how local communities used the river.
The route on the day depends on park conditions and the confirmed itinerary. Expect time on marked paths, close waterfall views and a very different landscape from the coast you leave behind in Split.
Can You Swim at Krka?
Swimming is prohibited inside Krka National Park, including at Skradinski Buk. After leaving the protected park visit, NP Tours may make a separate river-beach stop in Skradin, near the park boat entrance, when weather, water, safety and current local signs allow. The Overnight Near Plitvice
After Krka, the journey continues inland for the overnight stop near Plitvice. This is the part that changes the whole experience. Instead of returning to Split and starting again before dawn, you are already close to the lakes and can have a normal evening before the early visit.

Day 2: Plitvice Lakes, Early
Plitvice is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of sixteen interconnected lakes, forest trails and waterfalls formed over tufa barriers. The wooden walkways can become busy later in the day, which is why sleeping nearby is so useful.
The group follows the most suitable open sightseeing programme for the conditions, timing and walking pace. Park tickets include the relevant electric boat and panoramic transport within the selected programme. Comfortable shoes, water and protection from sun or rain are the essentials.
Swimming is not permitted anywhere within Plitvice Lakes National Park. Visitors must stay on marked paths and follow the park’s current rules.
