Croatia Sailing Extension from Split

BEFORE OR AFTER THE BOAT

The part of Croatia you cannot see from deck

Your sailing week shows you Croatia from the water. Our 2-day, 1-night journey from Split takes you inland to Krka and Plitvice, with a scenic river approach, an overnight near the lakes and an early start before the busiest part of the day.

A week on the Adriatic is a brilliant way to experience island towns and the coast. It is also easy to return home having missed Croatia’s freshwater landscapes.

Krka and Plitvice sit inland. We combine them into one continuous overnight route, so you see two very different sides of Croatia without organising another car, deciphering regional bus connections or repeating the same long stretches of road.

HOW IT FITS

How it fits around a sailing week

Before you sail. Take the national-parks tour first, return to Split on Day 2, then keep a buffer night before boarding. You reach the harbour rested and without putting a fixed sailing departure at risk.

After you sail. Disembark, enjoy a slower day in Split and begin the parks tour on a matching departure. It is a quieter, greener final chapter after a social week at sea.

One-way sailing routes. If your boat starts or finishes in Dubrovnik, send us the exact cities and dates. We will tell you honestly whether the Split connection is comfortable.

Do not schedule a same-day tour return against a fixed boat check-in or long-haul flight.

THE ROUTE

Two days, two national parks, no backtracking

Day 1: Split, the Krka River and Plitvice country. Travel to Skradin and, in the operating season, follow the river by boat towards Skradinski buk. Explore the waterfalls and shaded trails. Swimming is no longer allowed at the park’s tufa barriers; when conditions allow, we instead offer a swim farther downstream, outside the national park boundary.

Continue inland and settle into cabin-style accommodation near Plitvice, with an included dinner. Staying close to the lakes is what makes the next morning different from a rushed return day trip.

Day 2: Plitvice before the main rush. After breakfast, enter early for the boardwalks, clear lakes and waterfalls. The route adapts to conditions; after the visit and a lunch stop, return to Split in the evening.

PLAN IN AUD

Approximate Australian-dollar guide

NP Tours charges in euros. Using the European Central Bank reference rate of EUR 1 = AUD 1.6321 on 21 August 2026, current seasonal prices are approximately:

May and October: EUR 290, about A$475
June and September: EUR 320, about A$525
July and August: EUR 335, about A$550

These are planning estimates only. Your card provider’s exchange rate and fees may differ; the confirmed euro amount applies.

Long-haul timing matters

Australian passport holders can generally visit the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, but requirements can change. Australia has no reciprocal healthcare agreement with Croatia, so comprehensive travel insurance matters.

For a long-haul itinerary, arrive in Split at least one night before a fixed tour or sailing departure. Check current advice at Smartraveller.
